Amoi Bullen is a native Dauisanon, born August 27, 1956. He studied at Dauis Central Elementary School from 1963 to 1969, Bohol National High School from 1969 to 1973, and went on to graduate Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) at PMI Colleges-Bohol. In 1978, he started working at Sealife, employed by Zim Lines, an Israel shipping company. He rose from being just an ordinary seaman to become a Third Mate from 1981 to 1987, a Second Mate from 1987 to 1990, a Chief Mate from 1991 to 1999, and as a Master Mariner or Captain from 1999 up to the present. Amoi shared that as an international mariner for more than 40 years, he had once a dangerous close encounter with the notorious Somalian pirates. While sailing on the sea off the coast of Somalia, fully-armed pirates chased their ship. They fired warning shots to ward off the pirates, but they shoot back heavily. Fortunately, North American Treaty Organization (NATO) search and rescue team aboard Black Hawk helicopters arrived in the scene and fired 60 Caliber Machineguns, forcing the enemy to scamper for safety.
