Dauis Church, or the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, situated in the town of Dauis on Panglao Island, holds the prestigious title of a National Historical Landmark bestowed by the National Historical Commission.

In addition to its connection with the miraculous Our Lady of the Assumption, Dauis Church features a captivating blend of neo-gothic and neo-classical architecture. Notably, the church is adorned with a watchtower and a bell tower, both meticulously crafted from corals, adding to its unique architectural charm.

Constructed in 1697 by priests of the Jesuit Order, Dauis Church saw further development in 1753 when Fr. Joseph Nepomuceno, S.J., added a convent to the church complex. This convent subsequently served as the official residence for Jesuits from Loboc.

The construction of the present Dauis Church was initiated by Fr. Julio Saldana in 1863. The project was later completed by Fr. Natalio del Mar in 1923. The culmination of this effort was marked by the inauguration of the church in the same year, a ceremony officiated by Messenger Juan Gorordo of Cebu.

During World War II, the church’s convent served as a shelter for nuns from Tagbilaran City. Recognizing its historical and spiritual significance, Dauis Church was officially designated as the Shrine of Our Lady of the Assumption in 2004.

In 2013, a 7.2 earthquake in Bohol and Cebu caused damage to a section of Dauis Church's front and portico. Recognizing its historical significance, the National Historical Commission undertook the restoration of the church complex in 2015. Subsequently, in 2017, the restored complex was officially turned over to the Diocese of Tagbilaran.

Visitors to Dauis Church will discover a serene and relaxing atmosphere, perfect for a leisurely stroll around the church complex. For those accustomed to the hustle of big cities, this peaceful ambiance can provide a rejuvenating boost of energy. Notably, the church complex offers a tranquil vibe, and the garden at the back provides a scenic view of the sea.

An additional recommendation is to attend the daily morning masses at Dauis Church, held every day at 6:30 am. This offers an opportunity to revel in the beauty of this centuries-old masterpiece while participating in a spiritual and cultural experience.
